Hypnosis Can Be a Valuable Tool for Enhancing Sports Performance
Hypnosis can help an athlete’s mental focus, visual visualization and can sharpen their mental state allowing them to achieve the coveted “in the zone” where everything seems effortless. By enhancing concentration and visualization, athletes can improve their overall performance.
I'm sure many of us has heard the term being “in the zone” in sports. This is actually a natural state of trance in which everything on the field, court, rink, or track seems to slow down and one is able to tune out distractions. When “in the zone” the game comes easily and effortlessly to the athlete. Just how does the athlete get in the zone? It is through mental focus, concentration, and visualization. These are critical to success in any endeavour including sports and by adding a mental training regime, such as hypnosis, to physical and sport specific training it can help with a person’s focus, concentration, and can greatly increase confidence, consistency, and ability. Hypnosis can sharpen the athletes mind so that they can achieve being “in the zone”. Mental performance in sports has always received a lot of focus and intention with harnessing brain power, it is just as important for athletic performance as physical performance. Hypnosis adds an element to training that leads to better concentration and a reduction of stress that ultimately allows for more specific focus on one’s own performance. Hypnosis can induce physiological attributes such as relaxation, slow breathing, and enhanced receptivity to suggestions when guided by a professional. Most athletes who are open to the idea of reducing stress and honing concentration can benefit from hypnosis and when used as a regular part of psychological training it can become exponentially helpful in their abilities. It can effectively reduce negative thought patterns, performance anxiety, and self-doubt as well as facilitate new learning and intensifies practice through visualization.
It may be the first time an athlete is dealing with physical limitations and wondering how they will perform in the future it can be useful for all levels of athletes from the professional to the school athletes or the weekend warrior dealing with recovery issues. Today most professional sports teams will employ some type of sports psychologist/motivator to help give athletes the mental concentration they need to succeed. Just studying the best athletes and sports stars it becomes apparent that the common edge they all have in achieving a state of being in the zone does indeed begin mentally.
Are you an athlete that needs that extra “mental boost”?
